When Romy Adler decided to cut back on added sugar, she assumed dessert would be off the table. A lifelong baker and chocoholic, she dreaded the idea of dry date bars and bland fruit cups.
But after a few weeks of experimentation, Romy discovered something surprising: when you stop overwhelming your taste buds with sugar, other flavors come alive.
“I started tasting vanilla again,” she says. “Like really tasting it. And cocoa, and cinnamon—it all popped.” Quest Nutrition Ultimate Variety Pack Protein Bars, High Protein, Low Carb, Gluten Free, Keto Friendly, 12 Count
She began reimagining her favorite desserts using only whole ingredients. Instead of traditional cookies, she blended oats, bananas, and cacao into soft bites.
Her evening treat became baked apples stuffed with walnuts and raisins. Over time, her cravings shifted from candy bars to naturally sweet snacks that didn’t leave her feeling sluggish.
“I realized I wasn’t addicted to dessert,” Romy says. “I was addicted to the sugar rush.”
Now, her kitchen smells like cinnamon and roasted fruit instead of frosting. Her friends are amazed that her desserts feel indulgent without being heavy.
Most importantly, Romy doesn’t feel deprived. “Dessert should be about pleasure, not punishment,” she smiles.
