Zinnia Holt’s Clean Eating Recipes That Freeze Well

Zinnia Holt never had much tolerance for the notion that clean eating required daily cooking from scratch every single day.

She says, “I love good food,” but also “I love not being chained to my stove seven nights a week.”

Her method of clean eating has always included her freezer as a strategic tool for living well, not as a place for disposal of leftovers.

Zinnia thinks that cooking should be done when one has the energy to nurture oneself even in non-food related circumstances.

Her weekends are usually spent making large quantity meals, carefully portioning them, and labeling them as tiny gifts to her future self. Her dishes, however, are not boring or depressing.

Rather, they are vibrantly colored and textured; soups with strong herbs, stews that deepen in taste over time, sauces hugging roasted vegetables or entire grains with warmth.

“Knowing that a healthy meal is waiting for you after a demanding day is quite consoling,” she explains. Beyond the practicality, Zinnia discovered that freezing food enabled her to keep to a clean diet amid chaotic life.

It cut her reliance on takeaway and prevented her from grabbing processed foods when hunger struck.

To Zinnia, clean eating is not about perfection. It’s about designing processes that facilitate well-informed decisions even on days when your inspiration is lacking.

Her lifestyle discovered freedom—not constraint—by use of a filled freezer and little forethought.
