Miri Snow’s Low-Fat Recipes Kids Will Actually Eat

Miri Snow never dreamed she would have become a “stealth health” kind of mother. She knew she had to strike a compromise, where diet matched reality, though after her paediatrician advised her to monitor saturated fats in her children’s diet.

Like many other children, hers were dubious about change. She laughs, “If it didn’t come out of a box or end in ‘-itos,’ they were not interested.” Miri then started to get creative.

She just cooked with different goals; she did not declare the change. She roasted instead of fried, pureed vegetables to lighten sauces, and gradually replaced processed snacks with homemade versions that still tasted great.

She found that children yearn for consistency, flavour, and familiarity rather than necessarily for unhealthy cuisine. Her kids didn’t notice the lower fat count as long as the meals were colourful and comforting. She smiles and says, “They still ask for seconds.

Miri no longer keeps what she is doing secret. Her children assist her in cooking now; they learn which foods make their bodies feel good.

She wants them to grow up knowing that food is their friend. Not something to worry about or guilt over.

Her method works, though it isn’t flawless. Most importantly, though, it fosters good behaviour without compromising enjoyment during dinner.
