Bella Ward converted her kitchen into a center for healthy, nouraging meals as her family background made her more aware of heart health. “Cooking at home allows you control over what ends up in your food,” she notes.
Bella’s top heart-healthy foods are these:
Oatmeal topped with nuts and berries. Bella chooses oats topped with blueberries, walnuts, and a dust of cinnamon for breakfast. She notes, “It’s full of antioxidants and fiber.”
Salmon grilled graciously beside steamed broccoli. “Salmon is high in omega-3 fatty acids, which are fantastic for your heart,” Bella notes. She teams it with broccoli and a splash of lemon.
Soup Made with Lentils. Family favorites include Bella’s robust lentil soup. She says it is rich with vegetables, plant-based protein, and spices.
Dark chocolate and almonds. Bella’s snacks are heart-healthy as well. Her preferred treat is a little dark chocolate and a handful of almonds.
Bella thinks that little decisions count towards good heart health. She winkingly adds, “It’s about finding foods you love that also love your heart back.”
