Cardiology nurse and home chef Amber Lewis offers her best dishes meant to enhance heart health and lower cholesterol levels.
“My dishes are basic but loaded with heart-friendly components,” Amber adds. “You need not fancy foods to eat well.”
1. Fresh fruit in a muesli
Breakfast for Amber is muesli topped with blueberries, bananas and a sprinkle of honey. “Oats are fantastic for lowering bad cholesterol,” she says.
2. Grilled Salmon topped with asparagus
Rich in omega-3 fatty acids, salmon is a rockstar for heart health. Amber makes it with roasted asparagus and a splash of lemon.
3. Soup made from lentils and vegetables
“This is my comfort food, Amber says.” Her lentils soup calls for tomatoes, celery, and carrots. “It keeps me full for hours and is heavy in fibre.”
Amber also stresses cutting processed food. “Your heart will benefit much from a small kitchen effort.”
